Literary History comes to Life at the Wren’s Nest

The real treat is the back-garden storytelling, a tradition that’s as alive and well as you’d expect in the house that built Brer Rabbit. For younger kids, the magic of a brilliantly told story is enough to make this trip worth the parking hassle, but older kids are ready to tackle the complicated racial issues surrounding Harris’s legacy.

Hands-On Nature Study at the Elachee Science Nature Center

The small but well-formed science center has exhibits on everything from astronomy to local archaeology and is certainly worth checking out, but be sure to make time to explore the surrounding 1,500 acres of pristine woodland, where you can get up close and personal with all kinds of living things, including caterpillars and lichens.
